A Togolese proverb “Water gives life; but education gives hope” underlies the importance of education for Togolese people. Education focuses on the future, which is difficult to do when a child is malnourished and lacking in so many ways. But we all need hope that a better future will improve our lives.
More pragmatically, education is directly associated with breaking the cycle of poverty and with life enhancement. Education leads to improved health, higher income, thoughtful family planning, and greater opportunity to guide the development of a country.
